Sian Pearson is currently in her second
year studying Learning Disability Nursing at Glasgow Caledonian University
(GCU). Sian presented at the Scottish
Learning Disability Nursing Network (SLDNN) 2014 conference with two of her
peers Zoe Lightbody and Corrinne Taylor. Following conference Sian became
involved with the SLDNN Student Sub-group and is the GCU Blogger for the
student sub-group.
Prior to beginning the course, Sian spent
time volunteering with children with Learning Disabilities through HOPE for
Autism (Airdrie) and HCPT –The Pilgrimage Trust whilst studying for her
Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Performance from Queen Margaret University.
During her time at University she discovered a passion for working within a
caring role. After graduating, Sian was lucky enough to work with Enable Scotland
for over a year, where she met an individual that taught her invaluable skills,
and whose memory inspires her in every day practice.
Sian currently still works with both
adults and children with learning disabilities through Enable Scotland and
Barnardo’s Family Support Services. Sian has a passion for Learning Disability
Nursing that has grown through her employment, and within her practice learning
experiences. She hopes to continually develop throughout her career, and take
her classmate’s advice with her all the way… “Never forget why you started”.
I'm sure you will develop into a great learning disabilities nurse !
